Gymnastics Classes

We believe that children should never stop learning. Our gymnastics space is a safe environment that is both fun and nurturing. Our program is designed with a continuous curriculum without a starting or ending point. Our gymnastics classes are specifically designed to provide an optimal learning experience for children.

An annual membership fee of $45 applies to all new students.

  • Parents can see students in every space of our gym from one of our three viewing rooms. WiFi is available throughout the facility.
  • Classes are offered year-round. You can stay enrolled all year long if you’d like. You may withdrawal from and / or re-enroll in classes at any point in the year. We bill on a monthly basis for classes.
  • You can switch class days and /or times at any point based on availability. 

Preschool: The Jungle Gym

Preschool is an excellent time to introduce any child to the sport of gymnastics. Our preschool developmental program is first and foremost FUN! We will help students improve their strength, flexibility, coordination, agility and communication skills. Our preschool students flourish in our Jungle. Learn more at the Jungle page!

TUMBLING CLASSES

Ages 5 – 21

TUMBLING CLASS

We offer tumbling classes for school-age students at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Our tumbling classes focus on developing the strength, flexibility, and proper technique that will allow each student to progress quickly and safely. 

Tiny Tumble:

This class is specifically designed for students who are 5 to 6 years of age. It is a beginner level class. Little to no tumbling experience is required.

Beginner Tumbling:
Little to no experience is needed in order to participate in beginning level classes. Students will be taught a variety of different basic tumbling skills.

Intermediate Tumbling:
Once basic skills are mastered, students progress to Intermediate Tumbling. Students are required to independently perform a back bend and have experience doing walkovers prior to enrolling in intermediate tumbling.

Advanced Tumbling:
Students should already have mastered walkovers and have been introduced to handsprings prior to enrolling for this class. Students in this class will build upon their basic skill sets. This class also builds on tumbling connections and twisting.

REGISTRATION IS NECESSARY IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN TUMBLE CLASSES.

Girls School Age Recreational Gymnastics

KINDERGARTEN through 19

Our recreational girls program offers a progressive experience in the sport of gymnastics for our school-aged girls. Students will advance from Red Wings through White Wings, then into Blue Wings followed by Silver Wings and finally Gold Wings. The curriculum is designed and develop to continually learn, perfect and build on gymnastics skills as a student improves.
Our goal in our recreational program is for the student to have fun and a safe environment while celebrating the achievements of themselves and others during their classes. Classes include a rotation of all Olympic events: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor. Additionally, a coach will teach skills on trampoline, work on improving flexibly and include conditioning and strength exercises into each class.
Students are continually evaluated for progress and improvement. Additionally, we also offer skill progress checks throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to view a gymnasts progression using our

Girls School Age Recreational Classes

Red Wings

Girls Beginner

School Age (1¼ hour)

Must be 5 by October 15th of the current year

The red wings program is our introductory gymnastics class. It is a perfect transition from our pre-school program for those entering school or for a new student already in school.
Students will have fun and build confidence learning and refining basic gymnastics skills on all four events.
KinderRed Wings – Must be 5 by October 15th: specifically designed for our beginners who are in kindergarten.
Red Wings (age 6-7) – Classes designed for those in first grade.
Red Wings (age 8 and up) – Gymnast older than 8 should begin to learn the sport in our Red Wings 8+ class.

White Wings

Girls Intermediate

Pre-requisite: Completion of Red Wings Skill Checklist OR Coach Recommendation (1½ hour)

The White Wing Program is the second step in our recreational gymnastics journey. Here a student will build on skills they learned in the beginner level classes. Additionally, new skills and terminology will be introduced and reinforced. This intermediate level lays the framework, knowledge and confidence necessary for advanced gymnastics.

Blue Wings

Girls Advanced

Pre-requisite: Completion of White Wings Skill Checklist OR Coach Recommendation (1¾ hour)

Once a student has combined skills and abilities through mastering strength, flexibility and form they progress to our advanced Blue Wings class. Our coaches train students on further advanced skills and combinations providing a rewarding and exciting experience.

Silver Wings

Girls Elite

Pre-requisite: Coach recommendation (2 hour)

A student brings a solid foundation with some advanced capabilities to the Silver Wings program. Here, expansion of skills, mastery of form and sequence development on all four events is trained and accomplished. This is an elite level of recreational gymnastics for students wanting to continue their developmental journey.

Gold Wings

Girls Elite Plus

Pre-requisite: Coach recommendation (2 hours)

The Gold Wings is the final progressive step in our recreational wings program. This class provides a fun, non-competitive environment where a gymnast can continue to advance skills, connections and build on sequences on all four events. Additionally, focus on aerial work is explored.

Boys School Age Recreational Gymnastics

Ages 5 – 18

The Boys Recreational Program consists of 3 progressive levels: Beginner (Concepts and Development), Intermediate, and Advanced gymnastics. Each level teaches specific elements and goals for achievement. Our coaches keep classes progressive while ensuring a fun and rewarding experience. The goal for each child is to experience success and individual accomplishment with each new skill they master.

Weekly lesson plans build confidence through gymnastics on six Olympic events: Vault, High Bar, Parallel Bars, Still Rings, Pommel Horse, and Floor Exercise. The Boy’s Program enhances flexibility, coordination, strength, endurance, and overall body awareness throughout each level. With continual evaluation, instructors track each student’s progress and skill development. Parents stay informed through the Jackrabbit Parent Portal

Boys school age Recreational Classes

Boys Level 1

Beginner

School Age (1¼ hour)

This Concepts and Development class is an introductory level to gymnastics. Each class follows weekly lesson plans centered around having fun while building confidence through various developmental gymnastics skills. Basic concepts of body positions, terminology and early stages of skill development are taught throughout each class. This class is for boys in Kindergarten and above, with no prior gymnastics training.

Boys Level 2

Boys Intermediate

Pre-requisite: Coach recommendation (1½ hour)

This program is enjoyable and rewarding class for the intermediate student. Classes build on the fundamental concepts mastered in the beginner class. Lessons focus on progressive new skills that build confidence, laying the groundwork for advanced gymnastics. A minimum level of proficiency should be achieved to ensure a safe, successful, and rewarding experience.

Boys school age Recreational Classes

Boys Level 3

Boys Advanced

Pre-requisite: Coach recommendation (1¾ hour)

This advanced program is the highest level of boys recreational gymnastics at Maine Academy. Our coaches provide a fun and non-competitive curriculum of gymnastics sequences on each event, aerial skills on trampoline along with advanced strength and flexibility. Students will be introduced to competition development in a fun, challenging, and non-competitive environment.
